LumpCast 001

LumpCast 1(mp3 format)

Welcome to my latest resurrection of an old endeavor. I have shaken off the moth balls and decided to try it again. About three years ago, I did my first audioblog. I ended up abandoning to do radiostatic. Regrettably, it seems that trying to co-ordinate two busy schedules has made it impossible for exios and I to actually make it work. It is nobody's fault or blame but the reality is that we spend more time attempting to schedule it and talking about doing it than actually doing it. The obstacles of distance, health issues and technological problems have resulted in two critical problems. The first is but a semantic excuse for the second. We failed miserably at consistently posting shows. Every time we would gain an audience, we would have and issue and not do the show consistently, which is a key factor for a sucessful podcast.

If you gain listeners, they expect you to fulfill their desires for being there the next time. That is the worse thing we did. We let our listeners down. I am very sorry for that. It will not happen again. If it does, it is totally and entirely my fault.

There comes a point when one must face the music and simply make some choices. I have decided to go it alone. I made this decision totally on my own and blame no one and shall face any and all consequences because of it.

Enough text already. Below are the notes for what I am going to say. Your feedback is welcome.

  • My Crummy Intro
  • The opening tune Eltsuhg Ibal Lasiti by The Daktaris. Found over at the Podsafe Music Network
  • What this show will be about.
  • Contact information
  • How I record it. The tech-geek details. Actually this varies greatly but it is almost always done in my cluttered home studio
    • If I go part analog:
      • My trusty old Tascam 464. A classic old stereo mixer/recorder. (Yeah, that is a cassette deck in the old beast.)
      • I have an assortment of analog microphones but my favorite is this old Shure 5M12A headset mic.
    • There is an ever present digital aspect of it as well:
      • Almost always, the final mix is done on the old Creative M003 motherboard based PC. It is an old beast running on a P3 850 CPU. It is old but has always served me well.
      • For the mix down, I swear by Audacity. It is open source, free and supports VST plugins.
      • When I use a USB microphone as I did for this show I use my Logitech USB headset. There are higher quality mics out there but the under 40 dollar price tag makes it work for me.
      • When I am recording with one other individual, I use Gizmo. It is free open source VOIP software which has a built in recorder.
      • If I am recording with more than one other person, I use Teamspeak. It is also VOIP but you need to set up a server to use it. It gives better audio quality than the conference call recording in gizmo.
      • In terms of VOIP multi-user software, Ventrillo has been recommended to me recently. I will be exploring it in the future.
      • To host the actual show audio files, I use the Libsyn service. In my opinion, it is the most economical solution available.
  • The Journey Inside My Mind promo
  • The next song - The Who live at the The Monterey International Pop Festival performing "My Generation"
  • Stuff I found by Listening to Podcasts
    • I think I saw this in my Google Reader first but, nonetheless, Scratch was mentioned on Diggnation.
    • On Cranky Geeks I discovered a wonderful tool that I think might have solve a number of my browser issues. FireTune is an application that totally optimizes Firefox
    • From Adam Curry's Daily Source Code, I first heard of Plus TV
    • From Geek News Central Podcast, I heard this ironic story. Google deletes its own blog as spam? Todd covers many great stories and is by far my favorite news podcast.
  • Next Song - Artic Rising by School of Ambience
  • Two songs from Sugarman 3
    • Turtlewalk
    • Chicken Half
  • EFF promo
  • Zeon Control by Metaverse
  • All music provided on this show from the Podsafe Music Network
