I am trying Xenu to check for broken links on this site. So far, I am very impressed. It only took about 20 minutes to crawl this entire site via my 115.2 kbps modem.
Now I have to fix them all. :(
One thing I did notice is that it did report a lot of links as timing out that were when I hand checked, good. I think that might be a modem issue on my end. There were a good number of them. I noticed that many of them had popups which Firefox blocked. That could be why the reason I feel it is only fair to mention that I was on IRC (chat network), surfing and editing while the program was running.
I also had some links show up as something as "http://someRandomSite.com/about" that were actually linked as "http://www.SomeRandomSite" when I checked my files. I have no clue on that one. One thing for sure though, it is a big help.
Some of the links were, in fact dead, for people change such things often. Dead links are not good for a web site with even moderate traffic. I must admit it is a hassle to maintain such things but I do love working on blogs and there is some bad with all good. This program is an asset.
Another thing is for sure as well, I definitely need a proof reader! I spent the whole day correcting things I noticed I dorked. So welcome to the "revised and improved" version of Lumpy's Corner.
