We have reached a unique point in Lump's Teeny Weeny Corner. My search engine rank is great, traffic is high and I am, each month since June, gaining more and more visitors.
Tis all well and good. Thank You to all my "regulars" and greetings to all my "newbies". It flatters me much that you all visit and care to hear what I ramble.
Unfotunately, the spamers have also desended on this site like rabid locust on an unprotected field of seedlings. Although I have numerous spam prevention tactics employed, the sheer volume of garbage post to older entries is getting very time consuming. It seems that the bots have taken a likning to platering hundreds of randomly generated URL to my posts. This forces me to moderate the comment for it slips throuh my filters.
At least for now, I am not going to accept comments from post older than 30 days. This seems like the best option since I have, to date, not had only one legit comment submited to a post over 30 days old.
In otherwords, you have thirty days to speak your mind or forever hold your peace. (Heck that is better than the return policy at most retail stores.)

Well lumpy, looks like its time for someone to switch to Wordpress and use spamkarma. It does all this automatically. It will automatically watch comments on posts older than however many days you specify and it will hold in queue any that have more links than you deem necessary for a comment. It really is a wonderful thing. You should try it.

Heya Gnimsh,
I already do use Word Press on a few sites. (radiostatic.am, Getwellbrian.com and www.tke-csu.org, altough I am no longer involved with the last one.) I really do not see how Word Press or Movable Type out do each other. In my opinion, they perform about the same but just get there in somewhat different manners.
I could switch the corner over to wordpress and import everything but I just do not see what I gain from it for a personal blog. I also do not feel like playing with all the minor variations in the CSS to make it look like the site does now.
I use the MTblacklist plug in and it will automatically shut off commenting after so many days. The plugin functions almost identical to the spam functions and spam karma in Word Press. What both programs, to the best of my knowledge, lack is a captcha. For Tid Bits, I use nucleus with a captcha plug-in. That site has yet to be spamed. (Although Nucleus is really not much more than a straight forward CMS.)
Thanks for the feedback,
Lumpy
