Eroars und korectshuns

This is nothing more than an effort to err on the side of safety.

I make every attempt to assure that the information here is accurate and up-to-date. This task is rather taxing at times for CyberSpace is one of the few things that change more rapidly than the Cleveland weather. (Actually only one of two things that comes to mind, the other being my ex-wife's mind and mood.)

There are two web sites I mentioned that might be taken wrong.

The first being my endorsement of pingomtic in a recent blog. Geek was quick to comment that even though it was started by those associated with WordPress, it has nothing to do with Matt Mullenweg who, as Geek discussed in his blog, has come under considerable scrutiny of late.

I would also suggest that the readers read Matt's response to all the hoopla before they jump to any conclusions. Although I am not like or endorse what he did, I am not God and am not going to judge him. There is usually more to such things than we are ever aware.

Also, concerning pingomatic, Geek mentioned that there might well be some ping error problems at present. I have noticed this as well. My only comment on the matter is that it is a free service, I have heard many recommend it and I hope they fix it soon. I have also been noticing ping errors with bl.ogs of late and have yet to get any reply from my e-mails to them.

When one is using free services, one must be willing to accept such things from time to time. If the problems persist, I will mention it here hopefully with some alternatives. I still feel that it is more of a benefit than a hassle.

The second item I reported here was del.icio.us. As I do with everything here unless I state otherwise, I use or, at the very least, test drive the service or product. I found an e-mail from a user who was perplexed as to why del.icio.us had not sent him activation e-mail. I have no clue. I have not received mine yet either. I can, however, log in and edit my account just fine. I suspect that they may be experiencing some "growing pains"

I read about del.iocio.us in Contentious by Amy Gahran. I do not know how many Cyber-folks out there read her writing but I assure you it is a good number. I also know of sites which have flat out shut down due to bandwidth issues because of mentions in lockergnome.

Regardless of how technically sound and responsible a site is the sudden influx of traffic can cause problems. I would suggest just being patient. Based on what I hear and see, I feel that all of the above issues for del.icio.us, pingomatic and, hopefully, Matt Mullenweg will be resolved.

More ramblings later,
Yours digitally,
Lumpy

Geek:

Actually, from looking at Pingomatic, it would seem that Matt is involved in Pingomatic, unless this page is wrong. what I was saying that people shouldn't stop using either service, because he is not the only person involved in either service.

the 'Gnomie' effect is potent, indeed, with many sites being brought to smoldering ashes by the effect of thousands clicking in unison. I am thankful that my few mentions in the newsletters didn't cripple my site, but then again I wasn't a major mention, usually just someone looking for help in the form of links.
