First Thursday`s at Becky`s. I realize that most of you do not have clue what that is, so in the interests of having you read on, I will fill you in.
Becky`s is neighborhood bar and grill. It has a nice atmosphere and is not too pricey. It is also where the TeKE GCAA meets on each first Thursday of each month. TeKE GCAA is the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity's Greater Cleveland Alumni Association.
For those of you who know me little and might only know that I am currently in college, it might seem strange that I am going to an alumni event. The fact is I joined this fine Fraternity almost 20 years ago and this my second go at college. I have known most of these men that long.
It was a very good time. The Guinness flowed (and it was not too cold either), stories of days long past filled the air, laughter followed and the good evening ended far too soon. A night of getting together with lifelong friends is hard to put into words.
Otis was there who I have known for a decade and a half and caught more fish with than I can count (of course we lost or missed even more). Bobby D was there who was co-chair when The Chapter organized an event which pushed an eight foot tall juke box from Akron to Cleveland to fund raise for the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. Mike Beharry who framed all of our houses pictures was, as usual, right on time. Mr. Able Gable who led the charge to emphasize academics as the Chapter's GPA rose nearly one full point arrived about the same time as Ski, Crusan, and one other brother who migrated from Purdue (Sorry, my can't shit remember shit syndrome has kicked in.). It was a pleasant evening, like countless others I have enjoyed with my brothers, nights which are all experience which works cannot adequately do justice.
Despite the fact that there were accountants, engineers, marketers all gathered at two tables butted together, and the appearances varied from hippie (that would be me), to preppie wanna be and nicely aging looks, the whole room could feel a common bond. Friendships which grow into a true brotherhood are one of the money can't buy things of life. As I sit and type, years of memories, a certain special bond, and countless other thing run though my mind it is not something that can be put into words. I have met so many people because of my decision to join TeKE. Brothers, who now intersect the path of my life on a regular basis and have become an inseparable part of me. Men I know who, without, my life would not be what it is. Men, I would rather not live without. All different, yet all the same.
Now that I have gone for some time about what can not be adequately put into words, I shall try to end briefly and tease you with how this inspired the thought for my future rave on my more recent life experiences...
Naturally, since the end of the table I was at was dominated by engineers, the topic turned technical. (Engineers do that, defying the very laws they use to make things... Like entities should only repel.) Much to the demise of the one mechanical, it turned to the internet, even more specifically, servers and websites. For this geek it was much fun, doubly sorry for Mr. Purdue... The "oddball" mechanical.
And on that note I end today's blog, however be sure to tune into tomorrow's for the paragraph above is but a segue into it
