"One of Those Days";

Well, today was "one of those days" It started off normal enough, well maybe normal is not the right word.. (I was up all night getting this blog page to look the way I wanted it to.)

It certainly turned south when I got to work. For those of you who don't know I am a Community Service Officer at my University, basically I walk you to your car, keep an eye on the campus and lock it tight at night. I am also one of the student supervisors for the job. This means that my main frustration is doing the schedule.

In summer, with a skeleton crew, it is fun, to say the least. I had to deal with 9 schedule changes in two days. The end result was a nicely printed black and white schedule with more red ink corrections and un-staffed positions than black print. Thus began my shift. I had to juggle everyone around 4 times in like ten minutes. Somehow, mainly because we have a good crew, we managed.

I was not exactly in the best of moods over it but such is and so be it. Now all I had to do was to figure out a way to get to the lab, redo the disaster of a schedule and, somehow, patrol the bike on the campus. Hmm...

To add to my ulcer, the dispatcher informed me that he had received a complaint about one of our CSO's. Apparently he had left his station and left his keys and radio unattended. I dealt with it in a "one minute manger's" style. I simply explained that if he loses his radio or keys he loses his job. I also made sure to tell him that he is a good worker, dependable, responsible and we need him which is very much the truth.

Then things looked much better Eric, the other student supervisor was "bored" so I said "Hey, you wanna deal with the schedule?"

He said "Sure".

I tossed him the disaster and prepared to bike away my tension.

Now all I had to do was ride around on a Trek 21 Speed mountain bike and get paid for it. Later that night I would have to lock part of the campus and that would be it. Guess what?

I lost the key to the bike lock cable. Not as bad as loosing the keys to the campus and I won't get fired over it but you get the point.
