Texas Sized Hail?

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Wow! I followed this Digg Post to the actual article, which has three good photos of the damage.

Technically it is not hail but what it actually is has yet to be determined.

Friday's Links - An Eclectic List

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Today's list is loooong... Seems to be a lot of stuff that caught my eye this week. So let's just jump inot it.

  • This one could really use a video but it is still rather scary. A mud volcano?
  • If you have some time to kill and are curious as to what Apple may do next then check out this Photo Contest. I found the link at Steve Clayton's Blog. I like the iPottie (as did Steve) but on of the commentors on his site points out that there are products like it on the market. I also know some people who might like this body mod.
  • Do you need a flux capacitor to get back to the future with? I found a site that has one in stock (via Digg). Go here and type it in the search box. I am waiting for mine to be shipped.
  • Since I am a fan of Space, Boing Boing and Xeni no Friday list is complete without some type of Boing Boing article. This one has a few good mouse clicks in it. Buzz Aldrin talks about goin to Mars

Oh but wait... there is more...I promise to ramnble less and link more.

K-Fed Offends?

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

I think this NY Post article brings up an interesting cultural point. Seems that the "Life Comes at You Fast" commercial planned for the Super Bowl is causing a stir.

K-Fed is actually offensive to french fry cooks? I wonder if MC Hammer has a comment on this one?

I think the reality is MC Hammer could dance and had some talent... He also has a pretty decent blog. (I like how much bloggin' does about his son.) The other end of it is that, in my opinion, K-Fed is viewed as a leech where MC is viewed as one who was poking fun at himself. (And for those of you who think K-Fed has talent, I submit this video as evidence for my argument that he does not.)

China Airlines Anyone?

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

I read about this in one of my feeds. (Sorry I don't recall which one.) Although I admire the ingenuity of the use of seat belts, I would be really afraid to fly on this China Airlines Plane. Maybe they should have used duct tape instead?

One of the perils of the Internet is that one can, all too easily, get distracted and suddenly notice that several hours have been sucked out of their day. I was reading my many, many feeds and I came across a mention of this Lord V's Macro Bug Set on Flickr...

It was a very, very close call with the Cyber-time vortex of Doom. Reader be warned the photos are awesome and there are 49 pages of them! I bet he has over 1500 photos online.

Nice Satirical State of the Union

This Video is a riot.

I love the ending...

New Comic BLaugh

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

I just wanted to encourage you to be sure and scroll down each day. I was reading Chris Pirillo's blog and noticed a really good twist on the old tootsie roll commercial. It only took a nanosecond or two to decide to add the daily to my site.

I remember hearing about this comic before but can't recall where... likely Lockergnome. (Not that I rant about that site too often.) I guess it was the owl that closed the deal. With Chris being the creative writer it is destined to be a success. Lumpy votes to make it the official comic of the blogoshpere.

Lightning, Clouds and Rainbow

Check out this photo catching all three of the above in one shot!

I found the link via a Digg Posting

This House Looks Fit for a Hobbit

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

I saw this house in my feed from MAKE. It looks kewl and the author even has more plans and additional photos. A very kewl project indeed.

All it needs is a little round hole for Bilbo to pop his head out of. hehe

Fridays Links - 2007.01.19

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

It is Friday and I am, again, ill-prepared to post links. I have been a busy remodeling boy in the real world so quick and dirty here in no particular order.

First link is an interesting thought. A YouTube Killer? Is there such a thing? Formerly, The Venice Project is now Joost. Joost is supposed to be a new TV for the Internet.

This Boing Boing Article points to a very good composition all done from the sounds created by a child destroying a cardboard box.

Freedom Rock, Iowa

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

I thought this was neat. A friend of mine sent me some of these photos in an e-mail. I Googled the artist; Ray "Bubba" Sorensen. He has a really nice site. He is also rather known for Freedom Rock. (Freedom Rock in rural Iowa is also known as Patriotic Rock.)

"Bubba" also does other art work such as murals.

Today's list of links is going to have a theme. Yesterday, I purchased Greasemonkey Hacks by Mark Pilgrim (his blog). Also yesterday, I posted about Google Reader over at my Lockergnome Nexus Blog. There was one thing that was bugging me about my efforts to tame the reader. I could not get Greasemonkey to work.

I tried reinstalling, uninstalling, examining the config files and even Holy Water. Deciding to stop short of a virgin sacrifice, I uninstalled Greasemonkey, Firefox, then deleted all the relevant directories and reinstalled everything... Now every thing works and I am in love with greasemonkey. The first few chapters of the book are now multi colored from my notes, highlighter and red pen. Today I am going to share with you some of the links I found in the book.

Before I do, I should explain what Greasemonkey (blog) is. It is an awesome add-on for Firefox. It allows you to customize the browser in a manner very similar to the way CSS lets you customize a web page. There is a more complete description of what Greasemonkey is here. In a matter of minutes, I was able to customize my Google Reader to include a custom search that allows me to search my feeds and display the results inside of the reader. Using this simple script even a monkey could tweak it.

This special broadcast - Shadow over Long Island is quite good and has the flavor of the famous War of the Worlds broadcast.

Wii Damage

Best hold onto that thing or this could happen. (Link found at Digg.)

Make Your Own iPhone?

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

I doubt it gets much of a signal but this iPhone mock up looks really kewl.

MIA - Ohio State

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Has anyone seen the Ohio State Buckeyes? Seems like they didn't make it to last night's game.

The commentators were claiming that 51 days without a game may have hurt them. I think, unfortunately, they went 52 days without playing a game. I was so looking forward to this game and ended up shutting it off shortly after halftime.

Friday's Links Week One 2007

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

If I had to pick just two...

Tree Goats? I found this on Digg.

This is a great video of a Russian rocket returning to earth in a most spectacular manner.

Of course there is more...

Talking Dogs?

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

A link is worth a thousand words or, better put, howls, grunts and growls.

Saul of the Mole Men

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

I am olde enough to remember Land of the Lost and I must agree with the post that Mark put up over at Boing! Boing!. Saul of the Mole Men rivals its production value. Be sure and check out the trailer. It is a riot.

Mantis vs. Hummer

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

I can't see this happening very often but this Praying Mantis got a humming bird!

Would this Scare You

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Imagine seeing the photo in this blog lumbering down your street.... I think I would worry.

It does remind one of War of the World...

Cows Against Mad?

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

This is interesting. Mad Cow Disease resitant cows. Would that make them serene cows?

A Sad Must Read

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

This article is already being linked to everywhere. A father serving in Iraq has but a journal to leave his nine-month old son. Be thankful for your blessings this coming year and pray that we figure out some way to what is going on so we do not have to read more such stories.

Here is a quote lifted from the times article

The 18th was a long, solemn night, he wrote in Jordan’s journal. We had a memorial for two soldiers who were killed by an improvised explosive device. None of my soldiers went to the memorial. Their excuse was that they didn’t want to go because it was depressing. I told them it was selfish of them not to pay their respects to two men who were selfless in giving their lives for their country.

Things may not always be easy or pleasant for you, that’s life, but always pay your respects for the way people lived and what they stood for. It’s the honorable thing to do.

I am warning you, it is not an easy read.
