Sorry, I have not posted a blog of late. I have been busy with a side job and I have not been near the Internet. I have been to my goal of writing daily. I currently have about 150 different blogs in draft state. Next month will be a little bit better for time to write but a little bit worse for Internet access.
The rest of the month goes as follows:
The month of the lion continues in a manner that is far from a normal March. In my previous blog, I likened it to a polar bear, since then, it has been more of an artic roller coaster ride. This is also the case with the local news.
The weather has not been very warm at all. We are 9.2 degrees F below normal for the month and a mere 2.6 inches of snowfall away from the snowiest winter ever. Now we have had "teasers"; the sun comes out melts the snow and we briefly flirt with 40 degree F temperatures. This wanes into the twenties or thirties at night with more snow or rain/snow mix. (Personally, I prefer just snow. I hate it when you add rain and high winds.)
Now the utility companies and the filling stations love this frigid snap. Gasoline in the greater Cleveland area is hovering just slightly over 2 dollars a gallon and natural gas has rocketed up to 11.022 per CMF, which is about 10% higher than it was four months ago. In other words, other than cold and unseasonably so the weather is not much to talk about.
On the other hand, the news has been... interesting to say the least. Two stories strike me as odd. First off we have a local area nursing home worker who is facing criminal charges. Apparently she thought it a good idea to give her patients laxatives. Why? It seems that she was discontent with her third shift position and was motivated to make things more difficult on the first shift workers. What troubles me is that it is the second such instance I have heard of this year.
I work third shifts. I like my job. I am perplexed as to how any on who lives in the "poorest major city" in the county could be bitter about employment. I hope that the judge sentences both of them to a triple dose of laxatives and includes in the sentence that they must stand in the unemployment line. I would make the laxative treatment continue until they found a job, outside of the nursing profession and I would make it contingent that they go back to the end of the line each time they leave the line. That, in my opinion, would be justice.
Other odd news here is an accounting error and the schools. The error involved the accountant forgetting to include utility taxes as revenues for the schools. This added up to about 33 million dollars. There were emergency school board meeting, plans to close schools and cut programs. What is odd about it is that the accountant responsible is not only still employed but being praised for "being honest". I thought honesty and accuracy were requirements for accounting positions in public service and not positive attributes.
Maybe it is just me but I feel that if you cause emergency school board meetings, plans to close schools and, more or less, mass panic about the future of public education across an entire school district, you are out of a job. I do not think that is unreasonable at all...
By the way, did I mention that I did not have to report for jury duty?
I will be bloggin' on a number of things in the next few days so stay tuned to the Lumpy Eclectic Network.
